CA - Chartered Accountancy

Chartered Accountancy is a professional practice of auditing, accounting, financial evaluation, and taxation for an individual or an organization. The title of a Chartered Accountant is given to an accounting expert who has been approved by ICAI as qualified to handle issues relating to accounting. Their scope of work includes filing tax returns, auditing financial statements, and business practices, registration of the business organization with the government, maintaining financial records, preparing and reviewing records, documents, etc.

The certification of ICAI is a prerequisite for practicing in India. To obtain that one has to clear 3 levels to become a Chartered Accountant.

After appearing for 12th, the candidate has to appear for CPT after 4 months of the study period. For appearing in Intermediate Examination, a study period of eight months is required. Accordingly, you have to register latest by 1st September/ 1st March in Intermediate Course for being eligible to appear in the succeeding May/ November Intermediate Examinations respectively. Candidate can appear for the Final Examination during the last six months of Practical Training and after successfully completing Four Weeks Advanced Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft Skills (Advanced ICITSS) along with qualifying Advanced IT examination. Along with this, practical training of 3 years is required.

Yes, along with the 3 levels one has to undergo an article ship with a registered CA firm for a period of 3 years. 

CA is a degree that involves the core study of Accountancy, Auditing, Reporting, Taxation, and all financial matters whereas Cost Accountancy, or CMA, involves the study of managing budgets and managing the costs and expenses of the company.

The average salary of a CA in India ranges from INR 7LPA -10LPA. Although it totally depends on the hiring company and the candidate.

Yes ICAI does provide campus placement. ICAI organizes placement programs for CA freshers as well as experienced CAs.

ICAI provides 4 kinds of scholarships: Merit, Merit-cum Need-based, Need-Based, and Weaker Sections Scholarships. The scholarships are given twice a year i.e., in April and October. Students can apply for scholarship application forms available on the ICAI website.

Yes, any student after passing 10th examination conducted by an examining body constituted by law in India or an examination recognised by the Central Government or the State Government as equivalent thereto, may provisionally register in Foundation Course.

The candidate must register for the Foundation Course by 1st July to appear in the November/ December Foundation Examination.

The Foundation Examinations are held in the month of May/ June and November/ December every year. 1st January/ 1st July is the cut-off date of registration for being eligible to appear in the May/ June and November/ December examinations.

Out of 4 papers, 2 papers (Paper 1&2) are subjective type and the rest of the 2 papers (Papers 3&4) are objective type.

Yes, negative marking is for Papers 3 & 4 only and not for subjective papers, i.e., Papers 1 & 2.

Candidates have 2 routes to go while registering. One is registering for Intermediate Course after qualifying Foundation examination or through the Direct Entry Route after qualifying graduation/ post-graduation with requisite marks.

One has to register for the Intermediate Course by 1st July and complete the Four Weeks Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft Skills (ICITSS) and commence the Practical Training latest by 1st August to be eligible to appear for the next May examination.
Through Direct Entry Route, a student can appear in the Intermediate Examination after completing 9 months of Practical Training. Under the Direct Entry Route, a student has to commence the practical training latest by 1st August/ 1st February for being eligible to appear in the ensuing May/ November examinations respectively.

After passing either or both groups of the Intermediate Examination and successfully completing the Four Weeks Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft Skills (ICITSS), you can commence Practical Training.
